Services for staff

For personal counselling go to OH&S web page.

Counsellors can provide the following services to help in meeting some of the diverse needs of your students, as well as your own as a University staff member:

Staff consultation

Counsellors can be a resource to staff in areas such as:

  • managing difficult behaviours (of students and other staff members)
  • change and transition management skills
  • managing crisis situations and traumatic incidents
  • coping with grief and loss in the workplace
  • developing workshops on a range of human issues for staff and students
  • case management for individual students
  • helping students access personal counselling, see Counselling Information for Staff [PDF]

Fact Sheets

Fact sheets on a variety of topics are available in hard copy on all campuses at strategic locations or at Staff Resources.

Audio resources

Resources are continually being developed as audio downloads. These include:

  • stress recognition and management series
  • progressive muscle relaxation
  • an introduction to mindfulness

For more titles go to the audio resources page.

Links to a range of other web-based helping resources can be found at Resources and links.

Counselling resource library

Both the Sandy Bay and Newnham campuses have a variety of self-help publications, audios, videos and DVDs that can be accessed on loan. All resources are displayed in the Support and Equity waiting areas. Titles are added and recommended from time to time.

Workshops/seminars

Common topics include:

  • stress and anxiety management
  • managing difficult behaviour
  • mental health issues at university

Please see Training Programs offered by Counselling and Consultancy [PDF], or staff can approach Support and Equity with requests for workshops that can then be tailor-made for the needs of each group.
